July 10: Today’s first leg of the hut-to-hut trek was to be from Elmau 1006m (3301 ft) to Meilerhütte 2366m (7763 ft), but 4 of us stayed behind at Schachenhaus  1866m (6122 ft) while the rest went on.
Hike, Interrupted
Putting the rain gear at Elmau
Rain, rain go away!
They are tired of the rain, too

Ludvig’s Schloss Haus, built in 1871
The top floor is his fantasy Turkish Orient-lavish!
1.5 hours to Meilerhütte

Enjoying some afternoon kuchen (cake) and hot chocolate

A break in the clouds reveals the Reintal

The group is up there, in the snow. It did flurry on us also.
Ludvig stayed here 4 weeks each year beginning Aug. 25, his birthday
The hut was actually Ludvig’s kitchen, so we dined in the King’s kitchen!
Surprise! A rainbow!
